Documentary Film "passtheball2010"
by Yago De Quay

passtheball2010 is a platform that enable users to see and add videos that feature a person passing the ball from right to left. It's goal is to stimulate user-generated content and geo awareness.
The story goes that once upon a time there was a documentary mash-up course in Lisbon and that I had been accepted to participate. Being in love at the time with all things interactive and mashable, I was disheartened when I found out that most projects, albeit creative and honest in their own right, where linear - with a beginning, middle and end, as dictated by the film maker. We were a class of a dozen student, and started out planning on a team film but ended up going our own ways. My goal was to do some recordings of something that could be replicated by someone else and added to a community somewhere. The theme had to include include documentary, Google Earth and people. Chance had it that the soccer world cup was going on at the time, and thus the idea sprang up of filming people passing the ball from right to left in specific historical locations. Ok, so I had the theme, now needed to create the actual platform and community where users could post their own videos and see them on a map. Luckly the people of jotpix.com, a youtube-to-map website, upon my request added amazing features that could be used within my project. After three weeks, I had done to linear videos, and a platform where users could add and see passtheball2010 videos on google maps and google earth.
In the near future, I wish to add another layer of interactivity to the passtheball2010: Users are able to make a movie sequence after selecting passtheball2010 markers in google earth.
