Documentary Film "Convergence Park"
by Tiago Gamarocha and Paula Neves

The Field of the Martyrs is a garden in the heart of the city that offers a unique green space to its visitors and inhabitants. Having already been a slaughterhouse, a bullfight arena, a flea-market and a vegetable market, it was designated until 1879 as Field of Santana. It owes its current name to the memory of the hanging, that took place here in 1817, of 11 men suspected of conspiring against General Beresford.
Today it is a place where many aspects of day-to-day life converge: the encounter; the musing; the leisure and the cult of Dr. Sousa Martins. The garden is the backdrop for the emotions of its inhabitants. The unfolding of the many life stories that converge at this park stimulated our curiosity to deepen the research on how people live and breathe in this garden. We found a stage filled with life and mystery.
